Pune, September 24, 2020: Citizens, especially IT professionals who depend on restaurants to satisfy their hunger can take a sigh of relief as restaurants will be open till 10-11 pm in Pune, informed Vikram Kumar, Pune Municipal Commissioner.

Recently, PMC issued a diktat that shops have to close down at 7 pm. Accordingly PMC inspectors started closing down shops as well as restaurants at 7 pm and many of them were made to pay fine also.

Ganesh Shetty, president of Pune Restaurants and Hoteliers Association (PRAHA), said that around 15 restaurants were charged Rs 500-1000 for violating the 7 pm rule.

Shetty also emphasized on the fact that most of the orders are submitted after 7 pm on food delivery apps. “No customer is allowed dine-in and the delivery agent is only allowed to pick up the parcel from the entrance”, he said.

Shetty further said that all the establishments follow sanitization protocols of their premises along with regular health checkups of staff as mandated by the government.

“On the request made by the PRAHA, we have decided to extend the deadline of 7 pm takeaway services from 7 pm to 10-11 pm”, Kumar told Punekarnews.in.

When asked about dine-in services, he said, “We don’t have the permission from the state government yet, so we would only allow after the required permission”.

Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole had also raised the issue of extending the restaurant timing from 7 pm to 11 pm.
