Pune: Revised Approval For Chasakman Canal Work To Be Received Soon

Shirur, 23rd March 2023: The Chasakaman canal project, a proposed irrigation project in Pune, is set to receive revised administrative approval soon. The project, located in Shirur taluka near the Bhimashankar wildlife sanctuary, aims to provide irrigation facilities to farmers in the region. The administrative approval for the same is in the final stages of approval. The project was initially approved in 2018, but it stalled due to a variety of issues, including environmental concerns.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in the assembly that this proposal will be given revised administrative approval in the next two months. In this regard MLAs Ashok Pawar, Dilip Mohite-Patil, and Rajesh Tope presented some suggestions.

Once approved, the Chasakaman canal project will provide irrigation facilities to almost 5,150 hectares of agricultural land. The project will also generate over 800 million cubic meters of water, which can be used for several other purposes. The said project is proposed at a cost of around Rs 1,356 crore.

The project is expected to boost agricultural production in the region, improve the livelihood of the farming community, and boost economic growth in the area. With the revised administrative approval expected soon, the Chasakaman canal project is on track to become a crucial development project for the region.

Fadnavis said that it is necessary to complete the work of the Chasakman project. The proposal for this work will be placed before the Cabinet and administrative approval will be given soon. Also, there are some complaints about encroachment, which will be investigated. He also said that the work of surveying the canal work of Jayakwadi Dam is going on and a decision will be taken soon.
