Pune: Rising Diesel Prices May Hike Freight And Passenger Transport Rates

Pune, 28th March 2022: Diesel prices have been increased by about Rs 4 per litre in the fuel price hike that started last week. It is expected to increase further. Freight and passenger transport associations have hinted that rates will rise in the coming days, given the rising cost of diesel.
The last fuel price hike was in November 2021. Petrol and diesel rates were reduced on November 4, 2021, following a tax cut by the central government. Fuel prices were stable for about five months. However, on March 22, fuel prices started rising. Since then, the price of petrol along with diesel has been increasing almost every day. If the hike continues like this, it is said that it will not be possible for transporters to do business at the current fare.
The price of Petrol, Diesel, power, and CNG in Pune city on March 28 (today)
Petrol Rs 113.69
Power Rs 118.19
Diesel Rs 96.56
CNG Rs 66.00
Baba Shinde, president of the Maharashtra State Federation of Vehicle Owners and Drivers informed that “Diesel prices have gone up for the seventh time in a row in the last one week. Diesel has gone up by about four rupees. Transporters do not get passenger fares and freight rates in proportion to the increase in diesel prices. As a result, there is a huge financial crisis.”
“Rising inflation is likely to hit the common man. Therefore, the central government should discuss with the oil companies of the country to find some alternatives to keep the price of diesel stable. Otherwise, it will be difficult for transporters to do business”, he added further.
