Pune, 26th January 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is implementing a major riverfront development project along the Mula–Mutha river to improve public spaces and urban infrastructure. The river flows for a total length of 44 km through Pune city, and in the first phase, development work has been taken up on a 3.7 km stretch between Sangamwadi and Bund Garden.
In addition, work is underway on the 5.5 km stretch from Bund Garden to Mundhwa and an 8.1 km stretch from Aundh to Balewadi. The project also includes the creation of civic amenities and theme-based public spaces along the available riverbank areas.

According to PMC officials, nearly 90 per cent of the work on the Sangamwadi–Bund Garden section has been completed. Of this, a 1.5 km stretch at Sangamwadi has been fully developed.
On January 26, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, along with Additional Municipal Commissioners Prithviraj B.P., Pavneet Kaur and Omprakash Divte, and City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, inspected the completed work and carried out a tree plantation drive at the site.

The fully developed 1.5 km riverfront track is scheduled to be formally inaugurated on February 15, 2026, to coincide with the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Foundation Day. After the inauguration, the track will be open to citizens for walking, cycling and recreation between 6 am and 9 am, and again from 5 pm to 8 pm.
PMC has also planned to complete nearly 5 km of riverfront development work between Sangamwadi and Kalyani Nagar by the end of March 2026. The project will be inaugurated by newly elected public representatives and senior ministers in the coming period.

The riverfront project is being designed to provide Pune residents with a natural, eco-friendly environment for walking, cycling, leisure and other outdoor activities, offering a well-equipped and accessible public space along the city’s riverbanks.
