Pune: Road Repair Works Started By Mahametro; Measures To Reduce Traffic Congestion Will Be Reviewed By Mahametro
Pune, 10th November 2022: After the police and municipal administration blamed the metro works for the traffic jams and bad condition of the roads in the city, the Mahametro has started road repair works and measures to avoid traffic jams. The iron nets (barricades) placed on the roads for metro work have been removed and regular repairs and filling of potholes and dividers have started.
Meanwhile, as per the suggestions made by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Police, the measures to reduce traffic congestion will also be reviewed by Mahametro.
Due to the iron nets installed by the Metro at the workplace, the speed of the traffic is slow and traffic jams are created. A decision was taken during the joint inspection tour of the Municipal Commissioner and the Police Commissioner to seek an explanation as to why no action should be taken against the Metro as the iron nets were placed at various places by the Metro even when the work was not in progress and there was no need. After that measures have been started by Mahametro.
Due to heavy machinery being used for metro work, many roads are in bad condition. It was clarified by the Municipal Corporation that it is the responsibility of the Mahametro to restore the roads damaged due to the Metro works.

Accordingly, Mahametro has started the works by admitting that the roads have deteriorated due to the works. Road potholes, drainages repair, manhole repair, water channel repair, and footpath repair have been started by the Metro administration. As the works from Vanaj to Garware and Pimpri-Chinchwad to RTO-Bundgarden have been completed, the barricade has been removed and the road has been restored.
Elphistone Road to MSEB Chowk and Elphistone Road to Railway Crossing Road in Bopodi have been asphalted. Asphalting works have also been undertaken in Khadki Police Station to Railway Subway, Sai Mandir Chowk, Kalyaninagar, Bundagarden, and Pune Railway Station area.
Traffic Wardens have been made available to the traffic police to prevent traffic jams due to metro works and to help the police in planning traffic and 272 traffic wardens provided by Mahametro are planning traffic in various parts of the city.
Regular repairs of roads, footpaths, along with covering of drainage will be done by Mahametro and the works of filling potholes and dividers have also been started. New roads are being constructed at Bundagarden Road, Khadki, and Kalyaninagar. The work of restoring footpaths has also been undertaken on a speed level.
