Hinjawadi, 14th November 2025: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has launched an intensive drive to repair pothole-ridden roads inside the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park, Hinjawadi. The initiative comes after persistent complaints from lakhs of daily commuters about traffic congestion and damaged stretches across the bustling tech hub.

Alongside internal road repairs, work on the long-pending Hinjawadi–Baner road has also been accelerated to ease traffic movement between the IT Park’s Phase I and Phase III.

The six-lane, 6-km Hinjawadi–Baner connector has remained incomplete for six years. Of the proposed stretch, 2.5 km has been completed, while the remaining 3.5 km is pending, largely due to delays in the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) Man–Mhalunge Town Planning (TP) scheme. The cancellation of the PMRDA development plan has further stalled progress, leaving the project in uncertainty.

MIDC officials said the 1.8-km segment between MIDC Circle and Maan village will be completed within two weeks. However, work on the 1.6-km stretch on the Baner side remains stuck due to unresolved land acquisition issues. Although the road is planned as a six-lane corridor, the available width between MIDC Circle and Maan is currently only 8.5 metres, allowing movement on roughly three lanes. Some landowners have also approached the High Court objecting to widening activities.

In the interim, MIDC has decided to repair and asphalt the existing 8.5-metre stretch. Once complete, the road will connect Maan village to the National Highway, enabling faster access from Baner via Mhalunge to Hinjawadi Phase I and Phase III.

Massive Pothole Repair Drive Underway
Following widespread criticism over the poor road conditions inside the IT Park, MIDC has begun large-scale repairs. Workers are filling potholes and resurfacing key stretches with asphalt. So far, nearly 10,000 sq ft of damaged road surface has been repaired in areas including Pandavnagar Chowk, Laxmi Chowk, Megapolis Circle, Shivaji Chowk and T Junction.
MIDC officials said widening will also be taken up at locations where traffic bottlenecks are severe.

“The work of repairing potholes inside the IT Park will be completed immediately. Road widening will be taken up wherever congestion is high. The Hinjewadi–Baner road work will also be completed at the earliest,” said Rajendra Totla, Executive Engineer, MIDC.
