Pune, 25th October 2023: The recent escape of drug mafia kingpin Lalit Patil from Sassoon Hospital has raised concerns about the efficiency of the Pune Police. In response, the Pune Police have intensified efforts to bring those involved to justice.

Just a few days ago, two associates of Lalit Patil, who aided in his escape, were apprehended in Nashik. The latest development involves the arrest of Vinay Arahna, a partner of the Rosary Education Group in Pune.

After being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Aranha was in Yerawada Central Jail from where he was shifted to Sassoon Hospital due to ‘illness’. However, investigations have revealed his complicity in Lalit Patil’s escape, prompting the Pune Police to seek custody of Aranha for further inquiry.

The court granted the Pune Police’s request, enabling them to take custody of Aranha from Yerwada Jail, subsequently leading to his arrest.

According to Pune Police, the investigations have revealed that Aranha played a role in facilitating Lalit Patil’s escape. Following his ‘departure’ from Sassoon Hospital, Lalit Patil proceeded to a five-star hotel and later made his way to Somwar Peth in an autorickshaw. At this point, Dutta Doke, the driver associated with Vinay Aranha, awaited Patil with a car. Patil was then transported to Ravet in Pune. Upon arrival, Dutta Doke handed ten thousand rupees to Patil at Arahna’s behest. Lalit Patil initially journeyed to Mumbai and from there to Nashik, ultimately disappearing. He was eventually apprehended by the Mumbai Police from Bengaluru.

Both Lalit Patil and Vinay Aranha had known each other during their stay at Sassoon Hospital, where prisoners receive medical treatment. However, it was in Ward No. 16 where Aranha allegedly aided Lalit Patil in his escape.

Aranha, who had previously borrowed Rs 46 crore rupees from a bank, is accused of using the funds for purposes unrelated to the loan’s intended use. These charges led to his arrest by the ED. Nonetheless, citing illness, Aranha had been receiving treatment in Ward No. 16 at Sassoon Hospital, where he met Lalit Patil.
