Pune: Rs 2,000 Fine or Suspension for Rule-Breaking Drivers, Conductors

Pune, 17th May 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced a crackdown on bus drivers and conductors who flout traffic rules, following a rising number of complaints from passengers and public representatives.

PMPML operates bus services across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the PMRDA region, with a fleet comprising both PMPML-owned and privately contracted buses. However, repeated violations by some staff members have raised serious safety concerns.
According to the PMPML administration, complaints have been pouring in from daily commuters, citizen forums, commuter associations, NGOs, and elected officials.

Reported violations include:
Talking on mobile phones while driving
Jumping traffic signals
Halting on zebra crossings
Smoking in or near buses
Not adhering to lane discipline
Failing to display updated route boards
Acting on these concerns, PMPML Chairman and Managing Director has instructed that such violations be treated with utmost seriousness. Offenders will face disciplinary action, including fines of up to ₹2,000 or suspension.

Key Guidelines Issued by PMPML:
Strictly avoid using mobile phones while driving
Smoking in or near the bus is prohibited
Buses must stop only at designated stops for passenger boarding and alighting
Maintain proper lane discipline at all times
Do not jump traffic signals or exceed speed limits

PMPML has emphasized that these measures are aimed at enhancing passenger safety and improving the quality of public transport services. The administration has made it clear that violations will not be tolerated and immediate action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
