Pune: Rs 27 Lakh Cash Seized From Businessman During Checking In Wakad By Election Team

Wakad, 24th April 2024: In a joint operation between the Election Department and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, a significant cash amount of 27 lakhs was seized in Wakad on Tuesday night. The operation comes amidst the ongoing filing of nominations for the Maval Lok Sabha Constituency, which commenced on April 18, triggering a surge in political activity and campaign momentum.

Candidates representing various political alliances, including Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi, have filed their applications, intensifying the political landscape in the region. In response, the administration has bolstered preparations, implementing check points at strategic locations to ensure adherence to election regulations.

During a routine checking operation in Wakad, a joint team of the Election Department and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police intercepted a four-wheeler traveling from Mumbai to Wakad around 11 pm. Upon inspection, the team discovered a substantial sum of cash inside the vehicle. The individual claiming ownership of the cash identified himself as a businessman, asserting ignorance regarding the presence of the cash in his possession.

In light of the circumstances, both the cash and the vehicle were seized by authorities pending further investigation.
