Pune, 18th August 2026: Virendersingh Basoya alias Veeru, the alleged mastermind in the ₹3,600-crore mephedrone trafficking case linked to a factory in Kurkumbh MIDC, has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates and brought back to India.

Basoya was produced before a court, which remanded him to the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) until August 21.

Basoya is also allegedly a key accused in an international drug trafficking network involving mephedrone worth around ₹13,000 crore.

The case came to light after the Pune Crime Branch raided a factory in the Kurkumbh industrial area along the Pune-Solapur Highway and seized mephedrone valued at approximately ₹3,600 crore. The investigation revealed that the drug allegedly manufactured at the facility was being supplied to Pune, Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Investigators also found that mephedrone manufactured at the Kurkumbh facility was allegedly being sent to London for sale. During the investigation, police seized large quantities of mephedrone in Pune and Delhi and arrested 16 people in connection with the case.

Basoya allegedly went absconding after the case was registered. In view of the international links and the scale of the investigation, the Pune Police subsequently handed over the probe to the NCB’s Mumbai office.

According to investigators, Basoya was allegedly in contact with Sandeep Dhunay, a Delhi-based drug trafficker who is also wanted in connection with the case. Dhunay allegedly facilitated the transportation of mephedrone to London.

After Basoya fled India, investigators learnt that he was staying in Dubai. The NCB initiated proceedings through Interpol, following which a Red Notice was issued against him. He was detained in the UAE in June.

After completion of the extradition process, Basoya was brought back to India on August 14. The Patiala House Court in Delhi had granted him three days of transit remand before he was brought before the investigating agency.
