Pune: Rs 54 Crore Spent For Removal Of Water Hyacinth From Three Rivers
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 9th January 2023: The city of Pimpri-Chinchwad is crossed by three rivers: the Pavana, the Indrayani, and the Mula. These three rivers are home to a large empire of water plants. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appointed contractors to remove water hyacinth. Rs 54 crore will be spent on this project. The process of removing water hyacinth from the Pavana River has been started.
From the municipal limits, the Pavana river bed is 24 kilometres, the Indrayani river is 19 kilometres, and the Mula river is 10 kilometres. Numerous water plants have flourished in each of these locations. The river bed is looking like a green field due to the growth of aquatic plants.
This year too, like every year, a tender was issued on behalf of the Municipal Corporation for the removal of water leaves. As a result, contractors have been hired. For this, it has been divided into six packages. The first package, from Sangwade Bridge in Pavana River to Morya Gosavi Dam, package two from Morya Gosavi Dam to Kasarwadi Dutt Temple in Pavana River, in the third package from Kasarwadi Dutt Temple (Srishti Chowk, Pimple Gurav Bridge) to Bopkhel Dam in Pavana and Mula Rivers.
Under the fourth package, Wakad Bridge Surya Hospital to Dapodi Pavana-Mula Sangam in the Mula river basin, under the fifth package Sintel Company at Talwade in the Indrayani River to Batwal Basti, Moshi Bandhara, under the sixth package in the area of Batwal Basti, Moshi Bandar to Hiramata Mandir, Charholi STP project in the Indraani River. The watercress will be taken out. It is anticipated that this will cost Rs 3,80,06,496. As a result, work to remove water leaves from the Pavana River has begun. The municipal corporation is trying to remove the entire water table in all three rivers before the monsoon season.
Due to the contamination of the water, residents of the river area are suffering a lot from mosquitoes. As a result, water leaves must be removed regularly to clean the river bed. The Municipal Corporation spends crores of rupees annually to remove aquatic plants from these three rivers. This problem has been going on for many years, but a permanent solution has yet to be found.
