Pune: RTI Activist Arrested For Demanding Rs 2 Crore Extortion From A Highway Construction Contractor

Pune, 20th July 2022: It has come to light that an RTI activist allegedly demanded Rs two crore extortion for the smooth construction work of the National Highway between Adalgaon and Jamkhed in Ahmednagar district without any problems from one of the companies.

In this case, the Anti-Extortion Squad of the Pune city police crime branch laid a trap and arrested the accused after catching him red-handed while accepting the money.

The accused is identified as Dattatrya Gulab Phalke (46), a resident of Dhankawadi, Pune. Prashant Laxman Kamble (30), a resident of Kondhwa, Pune filed an FIR in this regard at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station.

Dattatreya Phalke repeatedly called the complainant Prashant Kamble asking whether his company has obtained his permits for excavation work on the national highway running from Adalgaon to Jamkhed road in Ahmednagar district, and has royalty payment had been made, he demanded Rs Two crore saying that the company should not be penalized and should do the work properly.

He then threatened the complainant stating if he does not pay then they will take information about his highway operations and file a petition in court.

Therefore, the complainant rushed to the Anti-Extortion Squad of the Crime Branch and filed a complaint.

According to this, the police laid a trap at Kadam Plaza on the Satara road from Swargate to Katraj and caught him while accepting Rs 25 lakh.

Further investigation in this regard is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector S Sajgane.
