Pune RTO Issues Notices To 65 Autorickshaw Drivers After Complaints From Passengers

Pune, 20th January 2025: Responding to a surge in complaints against rickshaw drivers, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched a dedicated helpline to address grievances, with refusal of fare emerging as the most common issue. So far, 65 rickshaw drivers have been served notices based on complaints received via the new service.
Traveling by rickshaw in Pune has often been a challenging experience for passengers, with frequent reports of rudeness, fare refusal, overcharging, and misconduct. While a few drivers are praised for their honesty, numerous passengers have encountered unpleasant and even shocking incidents. Filing complaints previously required visiting the RTO or using email, which was often a cumbersome process.
To simplify the procedure, the RTO has introduced a WhatsApp helpline at 8275330101, allowing passengers to lodge complaints more easily. Over the past few months, the helpline has recorded 135 complaints, ranging from fare refusal to excessive charges and misbehavior.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale confirmed that notices have been issued to drivers involved in these complaints, and appropriate actions are being taken. Additionally, the RTO has launched a special inspection drive to address these grievances and ensure compliance among rickshaw drivers.
“The helpline has provided citizens with a convenient way to raise concerns. The complaints received highlight recurring issues with some rickshaw drivers, and we are committed to addressing them through inspections and necessary actions,” Bhosale said.
