Pune RTO Issues Warning on Growing Threat of Fake HSRP Number Plates

Pune, 18th February 2025: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) is facing a new challenge in the form of fake High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) being installed by unauthorized vendors. These counterfeit plates, being sold at significantly lower prices, violate the official guidelines set by the RTO. In response, the RTO has issued a stern warning, urging citizens to only purchase and install HSRPs through authorized centers.

As per the Central Government’s mandate, all vehicles registered before April 2019 must have HSRPs installed by March 31, 2025 (Date has been extended till April now). In Pune district alone, around 2.5 lakh older vehicles are required to comply with this deadline. To ensure proper installation, vehicle owners must first register online, provide their vehicle details, pay the necessary fees, and schedule an inspection appointment at a fitness center. Following these steps, the HSRP will be installed at authorized locations.

However, some unauthorized vendors are taking advantage of this process by offering fake HSRPs that closely resemble the legitimate ones but are sold at much cheaper rates. These fake plates pose significant risks, including potential safety hazards on the roads and legal complications for vehicle owners.

Deputy RTO officer Swapnil Bhosale has appealed to citizens to only opt for authorized centers for HSRP installations to ensure proper registration and avoid future problems. “It is critical that HSRPs are installed through authorized vendors, as fake plates could lead to serious legal and safety issues,” he emphasized.

The RTO has warned of strict action against unauthorized vendors selling counterfeit HSRPs. The move is aimed at curbing the sale of fake plates and ensuring the integrity of the traffic system.

Citizens are strongly advised to register on the official website and only purchase HSRPs from authorized centers to avoid legal repercussions.
