Pune: Rupali Chakankar Saved A Minor Girl From Child Marriage; Appealed Citizens To Use Helpline Number To Stop This Crime

Pune, 6th June 2022: The family of a minor girl had arranged their daughter’s marriage. However, the victim girl, managed to meet the chairperson of the women’s commission Rupali Chakankar and informed her of the injustice happened to her. Accordingly, Chakankar has helped the girl and the action has been taken against the concerned family members in this regard.

A 17-year-old girl from Khed Shivapur was forced into child marriage by her family. The girl was also unable to leave the house due to intense pressure from in-laws and her own family. But after coming to her home, she somehow managed to come out of the house and ran to the chairperson of the state women’s commissioner Rupali Chakankar’s home.

She told Chakankar the story of the injustice done to her. Chakankar immediately informed the concerned police station and directed the police to take immediate action. The police also took immediate action in this regard under the Child Marriage Prevention Act and took action against the girl’s in-laws as well as her family members and sent the girl to Pune Juvenile Correctional Institution.

Rupali Chakankar informed that the State Women’s Commission is taking very positive steps to prevent child marriage and is always taking a firm stand to eradicate this mentality from the society. Rupali Chakankar said, “A special campaign will be launched by the State Women’s Commission from June onwards in the districts of Maharashtra where child marriage is most prevalent.” Chakankar appealed to contact the helpline number 155209; if anyone witnessed the child marriage.
