Pune Rural Police Crackdown on Illegal Sale of Gutkha and Pan Masala in Kamshet Market, Three Arrested

Kamshet, 16th December 2023: Assistant Superintendent of Police Satyasai Karthik, serving in Lonavala Division, Pune Rural, has initiated a robust campaign against illegal activities and businesses within the sub-division. In a recent operation, the police received credible information about the illicit sale of banned substances such as Gutkha and Pan Masala in the Kamshet market.

Under the guidance of ASP Karthik, a joint team from Lonavala sub-division and Kamshet police station conducted a well-coordinated operation in Kamshet market on Thursday. The team targeted multiple locations, including:

1. Godown of Bharat Champalal Jain’s shop at M/S Shivam Tedders, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Kamshet
2. Grocery shop of Ghisaram Sukhraj Chowdhury located next to Metro Medical at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Kamshet, and his residence
3. Bhola Traders owned by Mahaveer Sukhraj Jain at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk, Kamshet

A case has been registered against the accused under IPC Sections 59, 328, 272, 273 and the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 at the Kamshet Police Station. The charges are related to the illegal possession and sale of Gutkha, Pan masala, and other prohibited goods, which are banned in the state of Maharashtra.

In the operation, a substantial stock of prohibited goods was seized from all three shops. The total value of the seized items is reported to be Rs. 2,53,248. The shopkeepers, namely Bharat Champalal Jain, Ghisaram Sukhraj Chowdhury, and Mahaveer Sukhraj Jain, have been arrested, and legal proceedings have been initiated.

Police Sub-Inspector Shubham Chavan of Kamshet Police Station is leading the investigation into the case. The arrested individuals will be subject to further inquiry to determine the extent of their involvement in the illegal trade of banned substances.

The successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ankit Goyal, Additional Superintendent of Police Mitesh Ghatte, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satyasai Karthik of Lonavala Division, and the dedicated team of officers including Police Constable Sagar Bansode, Police Constable Bunty Kawade, Police Constable Raees Mulani, and Police Constable Ashish Zagde.
