Pune, 23rd April 2024: In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, the Pune Rural Police will receive assistance from the armed police forces of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Karnataka Police. Six platoons are among those set to provide support.

The Pune Rural Police oversees security for the Shirur, Maval, and Baramati Lok Sabha constituencies. Of these, all but the Khadakwasla Assembly Constituency within the Baramati Constituency fall under the jurisdiction of the Rural Police. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh noted that, except for Hadapsar and Bhosari in Shirur, the remaining four assembly constituencies, along with a portion of the Maval assembly constituency, fall within the Pune Rural Police’s jurisdiction.

Polling for Baramati is scheduled for May 7, while Shirur and Maval will vote on May 13. The rural police are tasked with providing police support for election operations while also maintaining law and order in the area.

Eight platoons of the CISF and Karnataka Police will augment rural police manpower to bolster security across various locations in the district. Among the three Lok Sabha constituencies under rural police jurisdiction, only 217 polling stations in Maval are included, necessitating a primary focus on Baramati and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies.

In the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, six polling stations are identified as sensitive, including two in Mulshi and one in Indapur. Similarly, one centre in Ambegaon falls under the sensitive category in the Shirur Lok Sabha constituency. Maval Lok Sabha has eight sensitive polling stations, with only one under rural police jurisdiction. Additional resources will be allocated to this site as required.

Number of Polling Stations under Rural Police:

– Baramati: 1805

– Shirur: 1137

– Maval: 217
