Pune : Sand Mafia Among Five Arrested For Abducting and Assaulting Construction Businessman For Extortion

Shirur 19th Oct 2023: The Pune Rural Police have arrested five people including a sand mafia from Shirur for allegedly abducting and assaulting a construction businessman. The accused having past criminal records were nabbed by police team while they were about to escape to Madhya Pradesh.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ankur Mahadev Pabale (26), Dnyaneshwar alias Mauli Shrikant Pabale (25), Vishal alias Anna Shivaji Makar (23), Dilip Rama Atole (45) and Nilesh Baban Palaskar (35). The police have seized five pistols and live carriages from the arrested accused.

According to police, the complainant who runs a construction business in the Shirur area was abducted by the accused on September 2. The accused allegedly abused and assaulted him and demanded extortion of Rs 10 lakh. They further threatened him of consequences if he does not purchase sand from them. However, when he refused one of the accused pulled out gun and pointed at him after which he assured to give Rs 1 lakh out of fear.

The police team was investigating the matter after receiving the complaint and they were finding it difficult to trace the accused as they were continuously changing their locations. However, the investigation team received inputs about the accused trying to escape to Madhya Pradesh to avoid arrest and they laid a trap. Three of the accused were arrested from Koregaon Bhima area and after their arrest, two more were nabbed.

A case under relevant sections has been already registered at the Shirur Police Station and the arrested accused have been sent to a police custody till October 21 by the court. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
