Pune: Sassoon Hospital Performs Around 200 Surgeries Daily, Handles Massive Patient Load
Pune, 1st April 2026: Government-run Sassoon General Hospital continues to handle a significant burden of patients, performing an average of around 200 surgeries every day. Hospital officials said that nearly 75 percent of these procedures are minor surgeries, while the remaining 25 percent involve major and complex operations.
Sassoon Hospital, a tertiary care government medical facility, provides a wide range of treatment services, from routine medical care for common illnesses such as fever and cold to advanced surgical procedures involving major organs. Despite the increasing number of patients seeking treatment, hospital authorities say efficient planning and the availability of experienced specialists and modern facilities ensure that surgeries are carried out successfully.
Hospital officials stated that there are around 20 to 25 types of minor surgical procedures performed regularly. These include procedures carried out under local anesthesia such as small incisions, suturing of wounds, and cleaning and treatment of minor injuries.
Major surgeries at the hospital include procedures related to the heart, brain, cancer treatment, kidney transplantation, hernia repair, orthopedic surgeries, eye surgeries, caesarean deliveries, spinal surgeries, and other complex medical interventions.
Dr. Yallappa Jadhav, Medical Superintendent of Sassoon General Hospital, said that the hospital’s advanced medical infrastructure and experienced doctors enable them to successfully perform even complicated surgical procedures. He added that the hospital remains committed to providing quality healthcare services to patients.
