Maharashtra RTE Admissions 2025: Over 2.87 Lakh Applications Received for 25% Quota Seats
Pune, 1st April 2026: More than 2.87 lakh applications have been submitted for admissions under the 25 percent reserved quota of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Maharashtra. Authorities have clarified that no further extension will be granted for submitting applications, and the schedule for the online lottery and admission process will be announced separately.
The RTE admission process is being conducted by the Directorate of Primary Education. This year, a total of 1,14,833 seats are available across 8,701 schools in the state for admissions under the RTE quota.
Earlier, the School Education Department had mandated that parents could select schools located within a one-kilometre radius of the student’s residence while applying for RTE admissions. However, the High Court struck down this restriction. Following the court’s order, the education department removed the one-kilometre limit and allowed parents to submit applications without that constraint.
Initially, parents were given time until March 25 to submit applications. Later, the deadline was extended until March 31, as parents who had already submitted applications were required to apply again under the revised rules.
According to information available on the official RTE portal, more than 2.87 lakh applications were received by the extended deadline. However, the number of applications has declined compared to last year, when 3,05,151 students had registered for RTE admissions across the state.
