Pune School Bus Fees To Increase By Up To 20% From June 1 Amid Rising Fuel Prices
Pune, 29th May 2026: Parents in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are likely to face an additional financial burden as school bus operators have decided to increase transportation fees by 15 to 20 per cent from June 1 due to the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices.
The decision was taken during a meeting of office-bearers of the school transport wing of the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Bus Association held in Pune on Thursday. Representatives, including Pune Bus and Car Owners Association president Rajan Junawane, Deepak Kulapure, Sachin Panchmukh, Rohidas Dagde and Sagar Chaudhary, were present at the meeting.
According to the association, the increasing fuel prices have severely affected transport operators. Apart from fuel costs, expenses on tyres, batteries, spare parts and AdBlue used in Euro-6 vehicles have also risen sharply over the past year.
Bus operators stated that the monthly fare hike is expected to range between Rs 300 and Rs 500 per student. They said the increase is necessary to manage operational expenses and ensure smooth transportation services for school students.
The new academic year for state board schools will begin on June 15, while several other board schools are scheduled to reopen earlier.
“We are not increasing fares to make profits. The hike is only to cover the rising operational costs. Diesel prices alone have increased by nearly Rs 10 per litre,” said Rajan Junawane, president of the Pune Bus and Car Owners Association.
