Pune, 10th October 2023: A high-profile case has emerged from a reputed school in Pune, where a student and the lady headmistress have been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and the Maharashtra State Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions Act. The charges stem from allegations of harassment against a class one student.

The harassment occurred between October 3 and October 8, as per the complaint lodged by the boy’s mother at Parvati police station. Senior Police Inspector Jairam Paigude disclosed that an older student and his first-class friend were involved in the harassment, which also involved inappropriate touching. The accused students had threatened the young victim with physical violence if he reported the incidents.

Despite being alerted to the harassment, the headmistress allegedly took no appropriate action. This inaction prompted the boy’s mother and other concerned parents to confront the school administration on Monday, October 9.

Sub-Inspector AP Jadhav is further investigating the case.

The case has ignited public outrage and led to calls for more stringent regulations in educational institutions to safeguard children from harassment and abuse. It also raises serious questions about the accountability of school authorities in such grave matters.
