Hadapsar, 17th March 2021: Pulses meant for animals were supplied for the mid-day meal scheme in a school run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the Hadapsar area.

The incident took place at PMC school no. 58, a girls school. Maharashtra state co-operative consumers federation ltd, Mumbai, recently supplied pulses like Harbhara (30 bags) and Tur dal (29 bags). However, the packaging had an animal photo on it, and ‘only for animal use’ was mentioned. Moreover, the bags weighed 5 kg less when the school authority measured them. The school authority refused to accept that food and informed local former mayor Vaishali Bankar and social worker Rajesh Gaikwad.

Gaikwad said, “The vehicle providing grains to the school was not having mention about this on it. Even electric measurement equipment was not available in the vehicle”.

He further added, “The employee did not have an ID card, and the name of supplier, weight, etc are mandatory to mention but were not there. It seems that the providers are not following the rules properly, and there must be a big corruption behind it. Concerned officials must investigate the case”.

“I will raise the issue in the PMC general body meeting. Also, we are writing to Deputy CM Ajit Pawar to ban the supplier and order an inquiry into the whole matter”, said Vaishali Bankar, local corporator.
