Pune Second Safest City In India, 256 Crimes Per One Lakh Population: NCRB

Pune, 2nd September 2022: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report has mentioned that Pune is the second safest city in India.

Various activities implemented by Pune Police for law and order have proved beneficial. Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta’s crackdown on notorious gangs, action under MPDA, the crackdown on rising gangs, and counselling of juvenile offenders have curbed crime.

According to the NCRB report, Pune was ranked as the second safest city in India in 2021. According to the report, Kolkata is the safest city with a cognizable crime rate of 103.4 per 1 lakh population. Whereas, the number of crimes in Pune is 256.8. Hyderabad has earned the distinction of being the third safest city, with a crime rate of 259.9. Innovative initiatives implemented in Pune from the perspective of law and order, along with women’s safety, have proved beneficial.

To strengthen law and order, preventive action was accelerated by making a list of gangsters, rising gangs, and those with criminal backgrounds in the area by police stations. This has helped in curbing the criminal trend.

Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has inviked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to break the back of groups/gangs involved in organised crime. The baton was raised by the Damini team for the safety of women, including school and college students. Along with that, Operation All Out, crime prevention measures were taken by the crime branch. Therefore, the crime graph in Pune has been reduced.
