Pune Secures Spot in WIFA Junior Boys Football Final with 3-2 Win Over Ahmednagar

Pune, 9th November 2024: Pune secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ahmednagar to advance to the final of the WIFA Inter-District Football Junior Boys Championship, held in Dhule on Friday.

In the semifinal clash, Pune made an impressive comeback after falling behind 0-1. Ahmednagar’s Bhanudas Chand struck twice, once in each half (9′, 57′), to give his team an early advantage.

Pune’s fightback began in the 55th minute when left-back Ethaan Lobo narrowed the gap with a crucial goal (2-1). Just 15 minutes later, Sourja Gupta (70′) leveled the score at 2-2, bringing Pune back into the game.

The winning moment came in the 73rd minute when Ethaan Lobo converted a penalty, sealing Pune’s spot in the final.

Pune will now face Mumbai in the championship match. Mumbai advanced after defeating Thane 5-0 in the other semifinal.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Pune edged out Palghar 1-0, with Rajveer Singh scoring the decisive goal in the 26th minute.
