Pune: Senior IAS Officer Maruti Sawant Sentenced 5 Years Imprisonment For Raping Minor Girl

Pune, 6th August 2022: A special court today sentenced senior IAS officer Maruti H Sawant to five years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl and molesting three other girls.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him.

The 1998 batch promoted IAS officer was posted as director- general of the Maharashtra Council of Agricultural Education and Research (MCAER), Pune, when the incident came to light. An FIR was registered with Sinhgad police station in March 2015. He was later suspended by the Maharashtra state government.

Special Public Prosecutor Pratap Pardeshi argued on behalf of the prosecution to prove his guilt.

Then ACP (Swargate division) Milind Mohite had supervised the investigation.
