Pune: Sewage Channel Bursts Into Water Channel Under Equal Water Supply Scheme In Ambegaon

Pune, 23rd April 2023: Ambegaon’s Water Supply Department has adopted a model of “incremental work” by breaking the sewage channel in the area while digging is underway to lay a water channel for the Equal Water Supply Scheme on the road of Sinhagad College in Ambegaon.

However, since these two channels come face to face, a decision has not been taken as to which channel should be closed and bypassed, and sewage has accumulated in this digging area for the last month.

Furthermore, this accumulated sewage is flowing into the aqueduct which is being laid afresh.

Despite complaints from citizens, the municipal corporation has conveniently ignored the issue, resulting in health problems for the residents in the area. The Municipal Corporation is laying a large water pipe on the road leading to Sinhagad College under the Equal Water Supply Scheme, but no safety measures have been put in place.

Due to the bursting of the sewage channel during the excavation work, mixed water has accumulated in the pit, mixing with the water channel. This work has been partially completed for a month. The iron pipe of the municipal Water Supply Department has been placed in this location, and the sewage has been mixing inside this pipe for the last month.

Even if the municipal corporation now works in this area and connects this water channel, wastewater will remain inside, and the municipality will have to wash out the water channel at least four to five times to clean it.
There is a significant risk of creating serious health problems for the residents of that area.
