New Delhi, 23rd April 2023: Renowned professional services network, Deloitte will lay off about 1,200 jobs, i.e, 1.5% of its US workforce, according to internal employee emails, which were cited by the Financial Times on Friday (April 21).

According to the article, the auditing firm’s layoffs will mostly target areas like the financial advice industry, which has been negatively affected by merger and acquisition activity.

“Our US businesses continue to experience strong client demand,” a Deloitte spokeswoman said in a statement to the Financial Times. “As growth in certain practices moderates, we are taking modest personnel actions where necessary.”

Nearly a week after the unit objected to the company’s intention to split up its audit and consulting units, the company’s rival Ernst & Young announced that it will be laying off 5% of its staff at its US arm.

Deloitte is a member of the Big Four accounting companies, which also include EY, which dismissed 5% of its personnel, KPMG, which fired 2% of its US workforce, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which announced that it will hire up to 30,000 people for its Indian arm over the next five years.
