After the transfer of Shravan Hardikar, Rajesh Patil joined as Municipal Commissioner in February 2021. He was appointed as the administrator of Pimpri Municipality on March 14, 2022, after the term of People’s Representatives in Pimpri Municipality expired.

Patil was transferred after completing five months as administrator. After all the Independence Day activities were over, the commissioner’s transfer orders were received on Tuesday (August 16) afternoon. The reason for their transfer could not be clarified.

After coming to Maharashtra on deputation from Odisha state, Rajesh Patil was first appointed in Pimpri municipality. From the beginning, the commissioner’s working method was controversial. He was constantly quarrelling with the corporators. He used to keep a distance from public representatives, social workers, journalists etc.

There were frequent complaints that commissioners who were neutral in the beginning were later acting according to the mind of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Reportedly, the decisions of the commissioner were being made as Former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar as well as local leaders of NCP in Pimpri will advise.

Reportedly, the commissioner did not approve the decisions which were approved by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Therefore, there was a latent struggle between BJP and the commissioner in the municipality. He kept aside the local officers of the municipality and gave all the important departments to the officers who came on deputation. There was a conflict between the administration and outside officials over this.

After the transfer of power in the state, there was a discussion that the commissioner would be transferred. Meanwhile, the local BJP leaders complained to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister that Rajesh Patil was anti-BJP and was acting according to the mind of the NCP. Finally, the commissioner was abruptly transferred on Tuesday.
