Mumbai, 5th May 2026: Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chairperson of the State Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe has been elected unopposed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. She was formally handed over her certificate of election at the Vidhan Bhavan on Monday (May 4).

Shiv Sena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had announced the candidature of Gorhe and Omprakash Kadu on April 30. Following scrutiny of nomination papers on May 2, the election picture became clear.

The election programme for 10 seats (nine plus one) in the Council was scheduled between April 23 and May 13, with April 30 being the last date for filing nominations. However, after scrutiny, several nominations were rejected due to technical errors and deficiencies, leaving nine candidates for nine seats, resulting in all of them being elected unopposed.

Speaking on the occasion, Gorhe said indications of an unopposed election had emerged earlier. “After we were given candidature, other nomination papers were rejected due to technical issues, and all nine candidates were elected unopposed. Today, we received the official certificates through the election authorities,” she said.

She thanked Shinde for reposing faith in her. “I am grateful to him for giving me this opportunity, and I will work to justify the trust placed in me,” she added, also invoking the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe.

Gorhe further said that with the support of Mahayuti allies and guidance from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, she would continue working for women’s development, safety, protection of victims, development of pilgrimage centres, and effective functioning in the legislature.
