Pune: Shivajinagar Bus Terminal Redevelopment to Begin on Maharashtra Day 2025

Shivajinagar, 12th February 2025: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Guardian Minister of Pune District Ajit Pawar has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the redevelopment of Shivajinagar Bus Terminal in Pune will take place on Maharashtra Day, 1st May. This crucial public transportation project will be executed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

During a review meeting held at Mantralaya, Pawar emphasized the importance of timely and quality completion of the project. He directed Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to coordinate efficiently to ensure the project’s smooth execution.

Key features of the redevelopment project:
1. A modern bus terminal with a commercial complex
2. Two basement levels for parking
3. A semi-basement for retail shops
4. Bus terminal on the ground floor, bus depot on the first floor, and bus parking on the second floor
5. A 16-storey building for government and private offices

Pawar also instructed officials to prepare a proposal for 99-year lease agreements for PPP projects to attract quality developers. This proposal is set to be presented in the upcoming cabinet meeting.

The Deputy Chief Minister stressed that this project would be a milestone for Pune’s public transportation system, providing faster and improved facilities for citizens. He also directed officials to finalise necessary agreements between Maha Metro and MSRTC promptly.

Additionally, Pawar called for expediting the development of an ultra-modern bus terminal at Swargate, considering it equally vital for Pune’s transportation infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, and senior officials from various departments.
