Pune: Shocking Case of Animal Cruelty Uncovered in Chikhli; Accused Arrested
Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th October 2023: A deeply unsettling incident of animal cruelty has been exposed in the Jadhavwadi area of Chikhli, where a one-and-a-half-year-old buffalo calf was subjected to brutal abuse within a cowshed. The shocking acts came to light thanks to CCTV cameras installed by the cowshed owner.
The abuse took place between August 18 and October 2 in a cowshed in Jadhavwadi. The buffalo calf was kept alongside other animals and was customarily tethered for its safety. The owner decided to install CCTV cameras as a security measure, which led to the revelation of the disturbing abuse.
The individual responsible for the abuse has been identified as 24-year-old Ramkishan Srirambhavan Chauhan, a resident of Jadhavwadi, originally from Uttar Pradesh. A 35-year-old man, who is the owner of the cowshed, filed a formal complaint with the Chikhli police.
According to the complainant, the cowshed housed two buffaloes, including the abused one-and-a-half-year-old calf and a younger one-and-a-half-month-old calf. On two separate occasions, the older calf was found with its legs tied and unable to move. An animal doctor was called to treat the injured calf both times.
Concerned by the repeated incidents, the owner installed CCTV cameras to monitor the animals. On October 2, the owner found the calf once again tied and immobile. Reviewing the CCTV footage revealed the horrifying abuse inflicted on the helpless animal. The footage showed the accused subjecting the calf to cruel and unnatural torture. Realizing he had been caught on camera, the accused attempted to vandalize the CCTV cameras while covering himself with a towel.
Upon identifying the individual in the footage, police detained Ramkishan Srirambhavan Chauhan for questioning. A case has been registered against him under the Indian Penal Code Section 377 (unnatural offences) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
