Pune: Shopkeeper Booked For Cruelty Against Chickens, Animal Activist Files Complaint

Kondhwa, 20th January 2022: A case has been registered against a poultry shop owner for the ill-treatment of poultry birds.

Animal activist Darshana Majumdar (60) lodged the complaint with Kondhwa police station (Pune city police) against three men for hurting the hens while offloading them from a tempo.

According to police, Majumdar was walking her dogs on Sunday morning when she saw a tempo parked outside poultry shop ‘A1 poultry’ near Raheja phase three society. She witnessed that two men from the tempo had tied six to seven hens together and while aiming they were throwing them into a cage inside the shop. They tossed a few hens back into the tempo after checking their weights. In the process, the hens were physically injured and it also led to the death of two hens.

Police have registered the case for offences under sections 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc.) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.
