Pune 17th July 2023: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has served a show cause notice to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for polluting the Ramnadi river near Bavdhan Budruk. This comes after a member of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) earlier complained that the untreated domestic effluent is mixed in the river water near Bavdhan Budruk.

The MPCB officials in a show cause notice asked the PMC to reply as to why its electricity and power supply should not be disconnected as it failed to prevent the pollution in Ramnadi river. It may be noted that the MPCB officials earlier in January visited the area and had shared an action plan with PMC. A deadline to implement the action plan was also shared but the civic body has failed to respond to MPCB on the matter.

The next hearing of the matter is scheduled at MPCB office in Pune on July 18 and the PMC has also been directed by the MPCB to remain present. According to officials, MPCB issues direction to the local bodies based on the powers conferred under relevant acts.
