Pune: Sinhagad Road and University Road Flyovers Inauguration Delayed; Work to Take 10 More Days
Pune, 12th August 2025: The inauguration of the flyover connecting Shiva Kashid Chowk to Hingne—providing a direct route from Sinhagad Road to Swargate—has been postponed due to pending work in its final phase.
The inauguration of the Raj Bhavan–E Square flyover has also been delayed. According to officials, both projects will require at least 10 more days before they can be opened to the public.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) began construction of three flyovers along Sinhagad Road in 2022 to ease chronic traffic congestion, with a total budget of ₹118 crore. Two of these flyovers have already been completed and inaugurated. The third, from Kashid Chowk in Manikbaug to the petrol pump at Hingne, has been built at a cost of approximately ₹40 crore.
While the ramp work at Manikbaug is complete and asphalted, the Hingne-side ramp still requires curb installation, street lighting, and painting. These works are expected to take at least 10 more days, missing the original August 15 deadline given to the contractor.
Safety Measures and Road Repairs
The Hingne ramp ends directly in front of a petrol pump, raising concerns of potential congestion and accidents due to left turns into the pump. Following media reports, the PMC extended the ramp’s curb to block such turns. Additional measures, including road repairs between Hingne Chowk and the petrol pump, removal of encroachments, and clearing obstacles near the bus stop, are also planned.
“I have inspected the work on the flyover on Sinhagad Road. It will not be inaugurated on August 15 as there is some work left. The flyover on Sinhagad Road and Vidyapeeth Chowk will be inaugurated simultaneously,” said Naval Kishore Ram, Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation.
