Pune Police Constable Rescues Young Woman from Canal in Parvati
Swargate, 12th August 2025: In a late-night act of bravery, Police Constable Kiran Pawar of Parvati Police Station saved a young woman who had jumped into a canal in Parvati around 11:30 pm on Monday. His quick action and courage have drawn praise from all quarters.
According to Constable Pawar, he and his colleague Unhale were patrolling from Savarkar Chowk at around 11 pm when they noticed a young woman inside the canal’s protective mesh. “We asked her what had happened. She told us, ‘Don’t come near me,’ and suddenly jumped into the canal,” Pawar recounted.
The incident occurred in pitch darkness, with no streetlights at the spot. “There was no time to think. I immediately jumped into the canal,” Pawar said. Parts of the canal had flowing water, while other sections were filled with silt, posing a risk of both the rescuer and the woman getting stuck.
After about 10 minutes of struggle, Pawar managed to pull the unconscious woman out. She had inhaled water, which had entered her nose and mouth. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Local residents and officials have lauded Constable Pawar’s presence of mind and courage, crediting his swift action for saving the young woman’s life.
