Pune: Six Policemen Suspended After Explosion During Illegal Gas Refilling In Tathawade

Pimpri Chinchwad, 11th October 2023: A catastrophic explosion rocked Tathawade on Sunday night, the 8th of October, resulting from an illegal gas refilling operation gone wrong. Now, two officers and four constables have been suspended for negligence.

The explosion occurred near the Blossom English School of the JSPM Institute in Tathawade, where individuals stealthily extracted propylene gas from a tanker in an open field. The unauthorized operation took a disastrous turn when nine cylinders connected to the stolen gas ignited, causing a massive explosion.

Following the explosion, the scene of the incident was littered with debris, and the authorities discovered a total of 27 cylinders, along with the equipment used to extract gas from the tanker and fill the cylinders.

Local residents and onlookers immediately rushed to the site in the aftermath of the explosion. News of the incident quickly spread across the state, drawing considerable attention and concern.

Health Minister Tanaji Sawant, who is associated with the JSPM Institute, wasted no time and personally visited the site on Monday morning. Minister Sawant, after assessing the situation, directed senior officials to take swift action against those responsible for the disaster.

As a result of the investigation and Minister Sawant’s directives, Assistant Police Inspector Parvej Shikalgar, Assistant Police Inspector Balaji Thakur, and four other police personnel have been suspended from their duties. The suspension orders were issued late on Monday night, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
