Pune, 1st October 2022: Pune has bagged the ninth position among the top ten cities in the country in the Central Government’s cleanliness survey competition. Last year, Pune got the fifth rank.

This year, Pune has come second among the cleanest cities in Maharashtra state. Pimpri-Chinchwad city has moved to 19th place in the country and fourth in Maharashtra state.

The result of this competition was announced today by the central government. The city has maintained its three-star ranking in the waste-free city this year as well.

This competition is organized every year by the central government. Among the 45 cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs, the Pune Municipality has consistently ranked among the top ten cities except for one year. However, this year the municipality has slipped from the 5th position to the 9th position. The Pune municipal corporation (PMC) has got the plus status of open defecation free (ODF) city and the cleanliness of the city has got a three-star ranking.

The PMC had made strong preparations for this competition, which was held two years after the Corona pandemic. However, due to the increased expansion of the city and the fact that the municipality did not get enough marks in the criteria announced by the municipality for a five-star ranking, the municipality had to settle for three stars and the municipality’s position in the clean city has fallen from fifth to ninth.

Meanwhile, it is predicted that the marks of the municipal corporation have decreased due to the increase in the city limits, the cleanliness of the lakes and the river in the city.

Pune city has secured the second rank in the state this year. Last year too, Pune was ranked second. Last year as well as this year, Navi Mumbai Municipality was ranked first in the state.
