Viman Nagar, 14th December 2025: Airport police have booked a 28-year-old software engineer under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after marijuana was found in his baggage at Pune International Airport on Thursday evening.

The accused, a resident of Kharadi and originally from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, was intercepted around 8.30 pm while he was preparing to board a flight to Varanasi.

Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav of the Airport Police said the contraband was detected during routine baggage screening. “While scanning his luggage, airline security staff noticed two packets that appeared suspicious. On inspection, the packets were found to contain marijuana,” Jadhav said.

He added that the airline staff immediately alerted security personnel. “After the alarm was raised, CISF officials detained the passenger and handed him over to the airport police for further action,” Jadhav said.

According to the police, the seized marijuana weighed approximately 12 grams and was valued at around Rs 400. “Although the quantity was small, it exceeds the permissible limit for personal consumption, which is why action was taken under the NDPS Act,” Jadhav explained.

The police officer said the accused has been served a notice and asked to cooperate with the investigation. “During preliminary questioning, he claimed the drugs were meant for personal use and that he inadvertently carried them to the airport instead of leaving them at home,” Jadhav said.

Further investigation is underway.
