Pune: Soldierathon Vijay Run Marks 1971 War Victory

Pune, 17th December 2023: To commemorate the resounding victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Western Adversaries in the 1971 War, Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat organized the Soldierathon Vijay Run today at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune.

Fitistan is a platform dedicated to fostering fitness across Bharat. The event aimed to honour the brave warriors who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation on Vijay Diwas.

Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh, GOC-in-C, Southern Command, flagged off the marathon and felicitated winners in various categories. Lt Gen AK Ramesh, Commandant of the College of Military Engineering, along with other dignitaries, also attended the event.

The marathon featured three categories: 21 Km, 10 Km, and 5 Km, attracting approximately 7000 participants from various parts of the city and beyond. The event resonated with high energy and vigor as participants came together to pay tribute to the heroes of the 1971 War.

Participants enjoyed an enriching and enjoyable experience, appreciating the pleasant weather and scenic beauty of one of the best Army campuses. The College of Military Engineering holds the distinction of being the first and only carbon-negative garrison in India. Maj (Dr) Surender Poonia, VSM (Retd), the Founder of Fitistan- Ek Fit Bharat, played a pivotal role in spearheading the mega event, ensuring its resounding success.

Every registered runner received a Fitistan T-shirt, Goodie Bag, Achiever’s Medal, and Race Certificate. The funds generated from the event were also contributed to the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Khadki, Pune, further adding a charitable aspect to the impactful event.
