Pune: Special PP Moves Application Demanding Action Against Sassoon Hospital Authorities In Drug Trafficker Lalit Patil’s Case

Pune 6th Oct 2023: The Special Public Prosecutor appearing for the investigation officer in connection with a drug trafficking case registered in 2020 against accused Lalit Patil who recently fled from Sassoon General Hospital has submitted an application demanding action against hospital authorities and other concerned stakeholders for negligence. Advocate Shishir Hiray who appeared as government lawyer in the case at NDPS and Sessions Court at Khed demanded that the concerned doctors and officers should be considered accused for allowing various facilities to the accused.

The advocate stated that the accused was allowed to stay at hospital without any concrete reason and continue drug trafficking from the hospital ward during his stay at the hospital. He also said that concrete steps have to be taken to stop such illegal activities taking place from Sassoon General Hospital.

He also submitted another application in the court and demanded for an entire record of hospitalisation of the accused in Sassoon Hospital and his discharge from time to time, his duration of stay in hospital. The advocate also demanded that the authorities must be instructed to produce his movement register out of jail and the concerned stakeholders must be investigated, issued summons and be testified for fair determination of the case.

It may be noted that Lalit Patil, an accused in a drug trafficking case was arrested in 2020 by Chakan Police for allegedly manufacturing and selling a total of 132 Kg of methamphetamemes drugs. He was lodged in Yerawada Jail and was taken to Sassoon Hospital for the last few days for treatment from where he was again found involved in running his drug business. Interestingly, just a day after the police managed to nab one of the accused involved in drug trafficking outside the hospital he escaped from the hospital the next day. The police have launched a search for him and several places have been raided in the matter.
