Pune, 9th May 2025: A 70-year-old retired businessman lost his life on Thursday morning after being struck by a speeding 400cc motorcycle near the Karve statue junction in Pune. The incident took place around 8:30 am on Karve Road, when the man was returning home after his morning walk.

The victim, identified as Pandurang Lande, was a resident of Kothrudgaon. He previously ran a small business and owned agricultural land, police officials said.
According to Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade from Alankar police station, “The accident occurred when Lande was crossing the road near the Shivaji statue, close to Dhondiba Sutar bus stop. A young biker, reportedly riding at high speed, lost control while approaching the curve and hit the elderly man.”

The motorcycle, a high-end 400cc model, was being ridden by a 20-year-old engineering student from Shrirampur in Ahilyanagar district. He was en route to his college near Paud Road and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

“The impact of the collision threw both the biker and Lande into the air,” said Inspector Rokade. “Lande was dragged for a few metres, while the biker sustained serious head injuries after falling onto the divider.”

Locals rushed both men to a nearby private hospital in Erandwane. Doctors declared Lande dead on arrival, while the student is currently undergoing treatment for head trauma.

Police have impounded the motorcycle, which had been gifted to the student by his father just two months ago. “We are registering an FIR against the biker for rash and negligent driving,” Rokade confirmed.

This incident marks the second fatal accident involving a morning walker in Pune in just over a month. In April, a 49-year-old man was killed after being hit by a car in Undri.
