Pune: Speeding Car Kills Techie Bursting Firecrackers, Driver Arrested After CCTV Hunt

Ravet, 5th November 2024: In an accident during Lakshmi Puja celebrations, a software engineer was killed after being hit by a speeding car while bursting firecrackers outside his housing society in Ravet, Pimpri Chinchwad. The incident took place on Friday, November 1, around 9 p.m., in front of Felicity Society. The motorist responsible for the accident fled the scene but was later arrested by the police on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Soham Jayeshkumar Patel (38), a resident of Ravet. Patel, who worked at a private company in Hinjawadi’s IT hub, was celebrating Diwali with his family when the accident occurred. His wife, Vaidehi Soham Patel, has filed a complaint with the Ravet police.

The arrested motorist, Aditya Chandrakant Bhondve (23), a resident of Sanskriti Heights, Shinde Vasti, Ravet, was apprehended after a thorough investigation.

According to Senior Police Inspector Nitin Phatangre, Soham was outside his society bursting firecrackers when Bhondve’s car, reportedly speeding on its way from Bhondve Bagh to the Aundh-Ravet BRT road, struck him. The impact was so severe that Soham was thrown several feet away, sustaining a fatal head injury. Locals immediately alerted authorities, and Patel was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, Bhondve fled without stopping. However, after reviewing footage from 80 CCTV cameras in the vicinity, the Pimpri Chinchwad police were able to track him down and arrest him. The investigation is being led by officer Purushottam Chatte.
