Pune: State Plans 1,100-Acre Industrial Hub Near Talegaon, Defence Sector Expected to Drive Growth
Talegaon, 3rd June 2026: The Maharashtra government has initiated plans to develop a large-scale industrial park spread across approximately 1,100 acres near Talegaon in Pune district, a move expected to strengthen industrial activity and attract fresh investments to the region.
The proposed industrial zone will cover land in the villages of Bour, Karanj, and Brahmanwadi in Maval taluka. Authorities are exploring the possibility of positioning the project as a major centre for defence manufacturing, leveraging its strategic location and connectivity.
Maval MLA Sunil Shelke said the government has already received interest from a leading company in the defence sector. According to him, discussions regarding land acquisition are currently underway with local landowners.
“A joint meeting involving officials from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the Revenue Department, and the Pune district administration was held on May 22. During the discussions, farmers were offered compensation of ₹84 lakh per acre. Landowners are presently evaluating the proposal,” Shelke said.
Senior MIDC officials indicated that preliminary administrative procedures are expected to be completed within the next few months. Once the formalities are finalised, the government is likely to begin the land acquisition process through direct purchase agreements with local farmers.
The acquisition is proposed under provisions of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act, 1961, enabling authorities to secure land through mutually agreed settlements. Nearly 500 farmers are expected to be part of the process.
The planned industrial park will be divided into two major sections on either side of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, each covering roughly 500 acres. The location has long been identified for industrial development, with initial proposals dating back to 2007. However, the project remained stalled for several years due to challenges related to land acquisition and approvals.
Industry stakeholders believe the site offers significant logistical advantages. Its proximity to the expressway is expected to provide efficient access to Mumbai’s ports, airports, and major transportation corridors, making it attractive for manufacturing and export-oriented industries.
Real estate and industrial infrastructure experts say the region’s growing residential population could support the development of an integrated industrial township model.
If implemented as planned, the project could emerge as one of western Maharashtra’s significant industrial expansion initiatives, with the potential to generate employment and accelerate economic growth in the Talegaon-Maval belt.
