95% Work Complete on Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Pune Metro; Passenger Services Likely Soon
Hinjawadi, 2nd June 2026: The long wait for the commencement of metro services on the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar corridor is expected to end soon, with a major milestone in the project now completed. The metro line, which will connect Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi with central Pune, is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel time for lakhs of commuters, particularly IT professionals.
The Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro is Pune’s third metro corridor and is being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in collaboration with Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited.
One of the most critical stages before the launch of operations—the inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS)—has now been completed. A CMRS team conducted a detailed four-day inspection of the metro corridor. A final review is expected shortly, following which the commissioner will decide on granting safety clearance. Once the approval is received, metro services on the route can commence.
Metro Services to Be Introduced in Two Phases
Authorities have planned to launch services on the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor in two phases.
In the first phase, metro trains will operate between Maan and Ramnagar (Baner), covering 12 stations.
The second phase will extend services from High Street (Baner) to Shivajinagar, covering the remaining 11 stations.
Once both phases are operational, the entire 23-kilometre corridor will provide seamless and faster connectivity between Hinjawadi and Pune city.
More Than 95% of Work Completed
According to PMRDA sources, more than 95 per cent of the project work has been completed. Construction and finishing work at stations between Hinjawadi and Baner is progressing rapidly.
PMRDA had earlier requested the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety to inspect the corridor. The inspection team visited the route in late May. Following the final clearance from the CMRS, authorities are aiming to commence passenger services at the earliest.
