Pune: Stone Shivling, Gun And Bucket Discovered During River Rejuvenation Work

Pune, 4th April 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is currently conducting river rejuvenation work in the Sangam bridge area, which has led to the felling of trees in the riverbed. During this process, workers discovered archaeological remains, including a brass bucket dating back to the British era.

History researcher Sameer Nikam has discovered some significant archaeological artifacts, including a stone Shankar pind (small Shivling), a British-era gun, and a brass bucket from the same period, during the ongoing river rejuvenation work. Additionally, Nikam has emphasized the importance of preserving the carved stones in the ghat area.

“The Sangameshwar temple was damaged during the 1961 flood. We have found some remains of the temple as well as a gun and bucket, which are said to be of British era”, Nikam added.
