Pune: Strangers Asking For Lift On Salunke Vihar Road Turn Out To Be Robbers, Loot Bike From Youth

Kondhwa, 29th July 2022: Two strangers waiting on the Salunke Vihar road around midnight asked a biker for a lift. The biker stopped and agreed to give a lift to the strangers. However, after covering some distance, the strangers turned out to be robbers who threatened the young man and then snatched away his bike.

The biker identified as Aakash Gupta, a resident of Market Yard, Pune, filed a complaint with Kondhwa Police station. The anti-vehicle theft squad of the Crime Branch has arrested robbers identified as Rohit Ramprasad Verma (18), a resident of Wanwadi, and detained his minor accomplice. Four stolen vehicles have been recovered from their possession.

Police said that the robbers had looted a Sumo vehicle in Kharadi area and the minor accused was driving it when the vehicle hit a pedestrian in Wanowrie area resulting in his death.

As per the FIR registered with Kondhwa police station, Akash was riding a two-wheeler from the Salunke Road area around midnight of July 24. At the time, two strangers who were waiting on the roadside near the Jashn hotel asked him for a lift. Akash then stopped the bike and agreed to give them a lift. After covering some distance, the two strangers threatened Aakash and fled with his bike worth Rs 30,000.

According to the case registered at Vimantal police station, the Sumo vehicle driver had halted near the Dargah at Kharadi bypass chowk when the accused threatened and fled with his Sumo vehicle.

The minor accused was driving the vehicle when it hit a pedestrian near Heaven Park while passing through Ganeshnagar, Wanowrie. After seeing the death of the pedestrian, they abandoned the vehicle and fled. An FIR is registered in this regard with Wanowrie police station.

According to police, Verma is a criminal on police record with seven cases registered against him for various offences. Police have recovered four stolen two-wheelers worth Rs 1.25 lakh from his possession.

The action was taken by team comprising Police Inspector Sunil Pandharkar, API Vivek Padvi, and police personnel Rajesh Abhange, Dinkar Lokhande, Rajesh Lokhande, Manoj Kharpude, Shivaji Jadhav, Ganesh Lokhande, Sudesh Sapkal, Rahul Ingle, Sandip Yele, Vinayak Yeole and Vinayak Saswadkar.
