Pune: Students In PCMC Area To Receive Cash Instead of School Materials
Pune, 3rd June 2023: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has introduced a new initiative to provide school material funds directly to the bank accounts of primary and secondary school students. Starting from June 15, the allocated funds will be deposited in the students’ or parents’ bank accounts by July 1. Students from the 1st to 4th standard will receive ₹3,500, while students from the 5th to 10th standard will receive ₹3,700.
The Municipal Corporation oversees 105 primary schools and 18 secondary schools, catering to approximately 50,000 students. Traditionally, the PCMC has been providing school uniforms, PT uniforms, sweaters, raincoats, notebooks, books, shoes, experiment books, and other materials to students each year. However, this year, the education department has decided to replace the distribution of various materials with direct financial assistance.
The funds allocated for items such as notebooks, raincoats, boots, socks, water bottles, compass boxes, business materials, Swadhyayama, painting notebooks, maps, 100 and 200 pan notebooks will be deposited into the bank accounts of students or parents. The amount of ₹3,500 will be granted to students from the 1st to 4th standard, while ₹3,700 will be provided to students from the 5th to 10th standard. The Municipal Corporation has collected bank account information from students and parents in municipal schools, and after verifying the details, the designated amount will be transferred to their bank accounts.
Pradeep Jamble, Additional Commissioner of PCMC, emphasized the importance of this initiative in streamlining the process of providing school materials. By adopting the Direct Benefit Transfer approach, the Corporation aims to simplify the distribution process and ensure that students have the necessary funds to obtain the required materials.
