Pune: Successful Police Operation Thwarts Planned Robbery at Lonkar Petrol Pump in Mundhwa

Mundhwa, 9th February 2024: Under the directives of Pune City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, a proactive criminal check conducted by Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi of Mundhwa Police Station led to the interception and prevention of a planned robbery at Lonkar Petrol Pump. The coordinated efforts of law enforcement personnel resulted in the apprehension of four suspects and the confiscation of dangerous weapons and incriminating evidence.

On January 7, 2024, at approximately 9:15 pm, Assistant Police Inspector Vilas Sutar, accompanied by his team, executed a criminal check within the police station limits as per Commissioner Kumar’s instructions. During routine patrolling near Lonkar Chowk, Keshav Nagar, police personnel Dinesh Bhandurge received intelligence from an informant regarding suspicious activities behind the Lonkar Petrol Pump at Z Corner. Senior Police Inspector Bolkotgi promptly verified the information and instructed his team to take decisive legal action if warranted.

Upon arriving at the scene, it was confirmed that a group of individuals was plotting to rob the petrol station. Acting swiftly, law enforcement officers attempted to apprehend the suspects. While four were detained, three others managed to evade capture.

The detained individuals were identified as Harshvardhan alias Lucky Mohan Reddy, Kuldeep alias Kunal Sanjay Salunkhe, Tejas alias Sunny Ashwin Pillay, and Shashank Srikant Nagvekar, all residents of Keshavnagar Mundhwa. A search of their persons yielded swords, an iron Koyta, an iron rod, an iron pipe, a bag containing chilli powder and an orange rope.

The suspects were charged under IPC Sections 399 (preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling to commit dacoity), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. Their previous criminal records were also disclosed, highlighting their propensity for criminal activities.

The successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Pune City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and East Regional Division Additional Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma by Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-5 R Raja, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hadapsar Division Ashwini Rakh, Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, and the diligent efforts of Assistant Police Inspectors Vilas Sutar and Sandeep Jore, Sub-Inspector of Police Dhananjay Gade, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Santosh Jagtap, and other police personnel involved in ensuring public safety and security.
