Pune: Arrest Made in Chinchwad Following Offensive WhatsApp Status about Ravana and Ram

Chinchwad, 9th February 2024: Chinchwad Police responded swiftly to a report of offensive content circulating on WhatsApp, resulting in the arrest of an individual on Wednesday morning. The content in question deemed derogatory towards the revered figures of Ravana and Ram, prompted legal action following a formal complaint lodged by a concerned citizen.

The arrested individual, identified as Rahul Vitthal Waghmare, aged 55 and residing in Pimpri, was apprehended by authorities following a complaint filed by Dhananjay Gawde, aged 35 and a resident of Chinchwad. Gawde’s complaint cited two WhatsApp statuses maintained by Waghmare—one involving Ravana and the other referencing Lord Ram, Lakshmana, and Sita. Gawde asserted that the content of these statuses was offensive and deliberately intended to hurt religious sentiments.

In response to Gawde’s complaint, Chinchwad Police initiated legal proceedings, culminating in Waghmare’s prompt arrest. The case is currently under investigation as authorities assess the nature and potential consequences of the offensive content.
